Cervical cancer: a simple test can find it early
Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers in Indian women. It can be found before it causes any trouble.
Who should get checked
- Women aged 30 to 65
- Even if you feel completely well
- Repeat the check every 5 years, or as your doctor advises
How the test is done
- A health worker looks at the neck of the womb after applying vinegar (VIA test)
- Or a swab is taken for an HPV test, where available
- It takes a few minutes and is usually not painful
- Ask your ASHA worker or nearest government health centre
Protect your daughter
- The HPV vaccine protects against the main cause of cervical cancer
- WHO advises it for girls aged 9 to 14
- Ask your doctor about it
